Science
At Prescot Primary School and Nursery, we aim to provide a high-quality Science curriculum that nurtures curiosity and develops children’s understanding of the world around them. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, children build secure scientific knowledge across biology, chemistry and physics, making connections with previous learning and developing strong foundations for the next stage of their education.
Working scientifically is central to our approach. Children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe closely, carry out practical investigations, record and interpret results and draw conclusions from evidence. Regular hands-on experiences allow children to explore scientific ideas for themselves, develop investigative thinking and understand that science is about questioning, discovering and sometimes being surprised by what we find.
Scientific vocabulary and oracy are developed progressively, enabling children to explain their thinking, discuss observations and communicate findings with increasing precision and confidence. Within our tech-rich environment, children also learn how digital technology can support scientific enquiry through research, data collection and recording, simulations and the presentation of findings.
Above all, we want children to recognise that science is all around them and understand its importance in everyday life and the wider world. We aim for children to leave Prescot Primary as curious, knowledgeable and confident young scientists, equipped with the knowledge, enquiry skills and investigative thinking they need for secondary science and their future lives.
