Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Prescot Primary School and Nursery.
Whether your child is joining us in Nursery or Reception, we want their first experiences with us to be happy, positive and memorable. We are passionate about giving every child the very best start to their education and creating a place where children feel safe, valued, confident and excited to learn.
We see our EYFS as an extension of home. Building strong, trusting relationships with children and their families is at the heart of everything we do. We take time to get to know every child, their personality, interests, strengths, experiences and individual needs, so that we can provide the right support and opportunities for them to flourish.
Our EYFS is a place where children can play, explore, investigate, create, communicate, make friends, take risks, solve problems and discover the world around them.
We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning. Our practitioners provide carefully planned experiences, rich environments and meaningful interactions that encourage children to think, talk, question, experiment and develop their ideas.
We celebrate every child's individuality and understand that children develop at different rates and in different ways. Our aim is not simply to prepare children for the next year of school, but to help them develop the confidence, independence, resilience, curiosity and love of learning that will support them throughout their lives.
We work closely with families because you know your child best. By sharing information, celebrating achievements and working together, we can provide a consistent and supportive experience for every child.

Starting Nursery or Reception is a big step for children and their families. We understand that every child arrives with their own experiences, personality, strengths, interests and individual needs.
Our priority is to make the transition into school a happy, positive and reassuring experience. We take time to get to know your child, build relationships with them and help them feel safe, secure and confident in their new environment.
We work closely with families and, where appropriate, your child's previous setting to make sure that important information is shared and that we understand how best to support your child from the very beginning.
Every day in EYFS is different!
Our children experience a carefully balanced combination of child-initiated play, exploration, adult-guided learning, small-group teaching, routines and time outdoors.
A typical day might include:
● welcoming children and helping them settle
● exploring our indoor and outdoor learning environments
● phonics, stories, songs and rhymes
● developing early mathematical understanding
● creative and imaginative experiences
● small-group and individual teaching
● opportunities to develop independence and self-care skills
● physical development and outdoor learning
● snack and mealtimes
● time to talk, share ideas and develop friendships
● following children's interests and extending their learning through play.
Although we have routines and carefully planned learning, we also understand that young children need time to become deeply involved in their play and investigations. We therefore give children the time, space and support they need to explore their ideas and develop their thinking.
Our practitioners are constantly observing, listening and interacting with children so that we can respond to their interests, identify what they need to learn next and make the most of the learning opportunities that arise throughout the day.
No two days are exactly the same – and that's what makes EYFS so exciting!
