At Prescot Primary School and Nursery, we aim to provide a high-quality Art and Design curriculum that inspires creativity, curiosity and self-expression. Children experience a wide range of media, materials and techniques, progressively developing their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, textiles and digital art. We encourage children to experiment, take creative risks and understand that the artistic process is an opportunity to explore, adapt and learn.
Children encounter the work of significant artists, craft makers and designers from different periods, cultures and backgrounds, broadening their cultural experiences and helping them understand how art can reflect history, society, identity and the world in which it was created. Children develop appropriate artistic vocabulary so that they can discuss, evaluate and respond thoughtfully to their own work and the work of others.
Art provides an important opportunity for children to express their ideas, experiences, imagination and emotions. Through the creative process, we aim to develop independence, resilience and confidence, while giving every child opportunities to experience success as an artist. Children’s creativity is valued and celebrated through displays, exhibitions and wider school experiences, ensuring that their work has a purpose and an audience.
Ultimately, we want children to leave Prescot Primary with the skills, knowledge, cultural awareness and creative confidence to appreciate art, express their own ideas and continue to engage with creativity in the next stage of their lives and beyond.Find the National Curriculum programmes of study and our Curriculum Rationale below.
