Phonics Roadshow @PCP
A closer look at how we teach our children to read.
We were honoured to be asked by the Department of Education to host a 'Phonics Roadshow' for visiting schools.
Around 30 visitors spent the morning with us, listening to our journey, meeting our Reading Lead and enjoying a tour of reading groups in action.
We have been using our chosen scheme: 'Read, Write Inc' for about five years now and have seen a steady increase in the number of children passing the Phonics Screening Check in Year 1 - and of children reading fluently by Year 2. Our RWI Leads have honed their teaching of reading and now all work together to ensure that the scheme is a success and supports all children to progress.
During the tour of the reading groups, visitors commented on the skill of the RWI Leads, the consistency of strategies, language and resources and of the complete engagement of the children involved.
'Pupils behaviour and engagement in their learning was very impressive in all groups. All delegates said that the part of the event they enjoyed most was watching the phonics/reading sessions in action.” (Ann Marie Rutter)
We were very proud of the positive feedback that we received!
