MAY 2022

Welcome!

Where did that half term go? Y6 SATs, a 70th birthday, new families to school  and a Platinum Jubilee - it's certainly been a busy one! Read all about it here...

Ofsted, April 2022

As you are aware, last half term we had our most recent visit from OFSTED. It was an extremely positive two day visit and we are so proud of the outcome.

‘It is a happy place full of smiles and laughter.’

‘Staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour.’

‘The importance of reading is a striking feature of the school.’

‘Pupils develop into respectful and responsible citizens.’

Above is just a sample of quotes from the recent report that we are most proud of. We have always known that our children are confident and happy pupils and this was extremely evident to the visitors. Thank you to staff, governors, children and parents - it certainly felt like a huge team effort.

The report is now available to read on the school’s website and will shortly be published on the Ofsted website.

PCP 70th!

This week the school halls were filled with bright legwarmers, leather jackets and peace symbols as we celebrated the school’s 70th birthday with a wonderful day!

A great big thank you for joining in and helping to create a timeline of outfits from the 50s to present day. As always it was a great effort from all, even the teachers enjoyed recreating fashion from their past.

During the afternoon, we had a trip down memory lane in the school hall with past pupils and teachers. It was a real 'feel good' event and we are so thankful to those who took time to come and join us. We had a visit from the grandma of our current year 6 pupil, Clara, who was a student at the school when it was brand new. Christopher Krelle, Prescot's Mayor - also an ex-pupil - came to support us. Another ex-pupil who joined us was Sam Leyden who provided beautiful music for the event. What a singing talent! Throughout the afternoon, Key Stage 2 children performed on stage and impressed the visitors with their talent show songs from the sound of Merseybeat.

Well done children you were all fantastic! It was a great day for reminiscing and cherishing the memories made within these walls.

70 Best Things

To commemorate our 70th year, our Digi Leaders have been busy producing a video based on ideas gathered from our school community. The theme is '70 Best Things about PCP'.

Here are some of the comments we collected:

'I love that we are given important jobs in school like working in the library.  We always get the chance to read when we want to!' (Y5 pupil)

'I'm in awe when the whole school comes together on a project that can make a difference to their environment and those in it.' (PCP Governor)

'I think it is brilliant how we are given responsibilities and our ideas are listened to. As a Year 6 house captain, I have enjoyed this role.' (Y6 House Captain)

We will share the finished video as soon as it's ready to screen!

Breakfast Club and After School Club

Could we remind parents that the responsibility for booking either of our clubs via Arbor is essential to the efficient management of the clubs.  Please ensure you book within the designated window to secure your child a place.

Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate late bookings, unless it is an emergency and pre-arranged with us. We must plan ratios carefully and would not want to compromise the safety of our children.

We would also ask that our members of staff are treated with respect at all times. We always try to do our best for the families who use BC/ASC.

Early Years Update

‘Children in early years achieve extremely well and are exceptionally well prepared for their next steps in education.’ OFSTED 2022.

It has been another busy half term in early years. Our recent OFSTED result is something we are extremely proud of and we know that we are laying great foundations for our children to continue on their primary school journey. In nursery this half term we welcomed some new children. We are so proud of how well they have settled in and how welcome they have been made to feel by the children who were already in nursery. This half term, children followed their ‘Sunshine and Sunflowers’ topic during which they were able to plant sunflower seeds, learn about shadows, play new games and they even had a picnic in the sunshine. Our Reception children have been just as busy this half term. PCPPandas have been learning all about the importance of recycling, making pizzas and preparing for the Queen’s Jubilee.

Coming up next half term will be ‘Sport’s Week’ with our EYFS Sport’s Day on the first Tuesday after the two week break. As the weather starts to improve even more please ensure children have suncream applied before coming to school and also wear a hat.

If you have a child who turns three before September please email admin@prescotprimary.org.uk with your child’s name, date of birth, address and contact number in order for them to start at our nursery in September 2022.  It is never too early to register your child, we already have children on our waiting list who were only born in 2021!

Please let any friends or family know that they can add their names to the waiting list too - we may well find that our list grows more quickly than ever before!

Reading update.

'The importance of reading is a striking feature of this school'.

Ofsted, 2022

We have high expectations of our readers at Prescot Primary and are thrilled when time and time again they exceed what we expect from them.

Since our last newsletter, we have 9 new Word Millionaires: Joshua Budd, Amelia Grant, Lucas Jones, Dolly Inman, Sophie Valentine, Maisie Barker and Connor Mullane from Year 6; and Gemma Sung and George Davies from Year 5.  Huge congratulations to them.  Lucas Vine has become a Double Word Millionaire…Yay! And unbelievably, Jessica Naylor has reached and exceeded FOUR MILLION WORDS!  This has never been achieved before in our school.   Her MacDonalds celebration treat was very well deserved.

In all, our children have read 91,000,000 words so far this year; it’s easy to see why we are so proud.

Sports Week

We are very proud of our annual Sports Week and are looking forward to its return this year. Throughout the week, the children will focus on sports skills and games and will attempt to achieve some personal bests.

Sports week will take place in the first week back of Summer Term 2 - Monday 13th to Friday 17th June 2022.
We are delighted to announce that we would like to invite you into school to cheer the athletes on for Sports Day. Please keep in mind that some parents/staff may still be anxious
about COVID and may want to keep their distance or wear a face mask. However, as this is outside in our wonderful outdoor space, we feel that we can all remain happy and safe
together and want to get back to normality with our sports event.
As we are a Rights Respecting School, the theme throughout sports week will be ‘ALL children have the right to participate and compete’. We want to create a competitive but festival-like atmosphere as this is the first time in a while we have been able to do something like this together. There will be opportunities for children and teachers to compete to add to the positive and fun week we are celebrating together.
We will always keep an eye on the weather and any changes that may occur. If there are any changes we will let you all know in good time. Keep an eye on Twitter for updates.

Sports day will take place on the following dates/times for your child.
NURSERY/RECEPTION AM - Tuesday 14th - 9:30am start - parents/carers arrive at 9:15am.
NURSERY/RECEPTION PM - Tuesday 14th -2pm start - parents/carers arrive at 1:45pm.

Attendance

Knowsley have produced a new attendance strategy. For more information click here:

PCP Attendance Information

Can we remind all families that children must be in school for 8.50am. Gates will be closed and your child will be marked late if they arrive at this time. Children who regularly arrive late can have an unsettled start to the day and feel unprepared for their first lesson. We would urge you to think about the impact that lateness has on learning and minutes lost as a result.

Y6 SATs

This half term our Y6 Unicorns tackled the first set of SATs since 2019. The children were extremely calm and settled during the week and did their very best. Well done year six we are all very proud of you and know that you will enjoy your final term at Prescot Primary School.

Fundraising

Thank you to the school community for joining in with our recent fundraising events. Our 'Beans in the Bottle' was won by Joseph Stott who's guess of 822 was the actual amount of jelly beans in the bottle!

Winning raffle tickets were picked by one of our special visitors during our 70th party. Our framed LFC print was won by Harley Moody and LFC badges/prints were won by Harrison Craine.

Altogether, we raised £401.00.

Thank you very much! Look out for our 'Great Big Summer Raffle' next half term.

Conservation Project 2022

Looking ahead to the next half term we will see the return of our annual whole school conservation topic which will have the theme of 'Madagascar'. This will be the fourth conservation project since 2018 and we are proud of how invested the children become in their role of custodians of the planet.

This year we are able to bring back our school wide trips to Chester Zoo which will take place over a 3 day period in June. Children in nursery all the way through to year six are very excited about this. On our visit, we will be able to explore the  biodiverse land of Madagascar and all of it's unique creatures. One of our wonderful staff members have even adopted a lemur in the name of the school - thank you Mrs Baldwin!

Each year group will have received their letters and payments can be made through the Arbor app. Please do this over the half term break; we will send regular reminders for you.
