May 2026

Welcome!

As we move through a very busy and exciting half term, there has been a real buzz around school with so many opportunities for our children to learn, grow and shine. From our inspiring Careers Showcase and action-packed Sports Week to Year 6 showing such determination and resilience during SATs week, we have been incredibly proud of the children’s attitudes and efforts. Alongside this, pupils across school have enjoyed a range of visits and trips which continue to bring learning to life and help prepare our children for their tomorrows. Thank you, as always, for your continued support during such a busy and successful half term.

Important message from Mr George

We have an important message from Steve George, our Headteacher of 23 years. We are sure that over the coming half term, you will join us in wishing him well as he rides off into his retirement on his motorbike!

Dear Children and Families,

I am writing to let you know that I will be retiring from my role as Headteacher of Prescot Primary at the end of this academic year, leaving on 31st August 2026.

After 23 years at the school, this is a decision that comes with a great deal of reflection and emotion. It has been an enormous privilege to be part of such a special community for so many years and to watch generations of children grow, flourish and move on to the next stages of their lives.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such talented and dedicated staff, supportive governors and wonderful families. Above all, it is the children who make Prescot Primary such a joyful and inspiring place to be each day, and I will miss them greatly. I am immensely proud of all that we have achieved together over the years and grateful for the kindness, encouragement and support that I have always received from the wider school community.

Although it is difficult to say goodbye, I leave knowing that the school is in very good hands. Mrs Seddon, who is already Co-Headteacher, will step into my shoes and become Headteacher of Prescot Primary from September 2026. With this, and the commitment and care shown by the whole staff team each day, Prescot Primary will continue to thrive and provide the very best opportunities for every child. Team PCP will always put the learner first and will continue to empower future generations of Prescot children.

Thank you for the support, kindness and encouragement you have shown me over the years. Prescot Primary will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Yours sincerely,

Steve George

Headteacher

Reception Outdoor Area Makeover Underway!

We are very excited to share that work has officially begun on our brand-new outdoor area for Reception! Thanks to the generous support of the Trust, this fantastic project is now well underway and has been creating lots of excitement around school.

The builders have been very busy digging, preparing the ground and getting everything ready for the new space. The children have loved watching all the activity and are eagerly talking about how they will use the area once it is complete.

We are hoping the outdoor area will be ready after the May holiday, which means our current Reception children will have the chance to enjoy and make full use of the new space before the end of the school year.

This wonderful new area will help us to continue to build on the continuous provision in Reception, creating exciting opportunities for learning, exploration and play both indoors and outdoors.

We cannot wait to share the finished results with you and look forward to seeing the children enjoying their amazing new outdoor space!

CONSERVATION PROJECT NO 8

Thank you to everybody who took part in our recent community poll to help decide the focus of this year’s whole-school conservation project. After lots of votes and discussion, we are excited to announce that this year’s winning theme is… ‘Love it for Longer!’

This important project will encourage our children to think carefully about the impact that clothing and fashion can have on our planet. Across the school, the children will explore issues linked to fast fashion, landfill waste, sustainable fabrics and the important role of charity shops, recycling and reusing clothing. We want our children to become thoughtful, informed conservationists who understand that small choices can make a big difference to the future of our world.

As part of the project, children will take part in authentic learning tasks designed to educate, inspire and empower them to help protect the planet by choosing clothes carefully, valuing what they already own and learning to 'love it for longer.'

We are very excited to begin this journey together and look forward to sharing more details and upcoming events after the holiday - watch this space!

PSHE: Careers Showcase

At Prescot Primary & Nursery School, we believe it is important to help children begin to understand the world of work from an early age. This is about much more than simply learning about different jobs - it is about helping children to develop positive attitudes towards work, including the importance of attendance, teamwork, resilience, communication and trying their best. We want our children to recognise that everybody has different talents, interests and strengths, and that qualifications, skills and determination can help them to achieve their goals and prepare for their futures.

We were therefore delighted to welcome more than 15 visitors into school for our annual Careers Showcase. The children had the opportunity to learn about a huge range of careers — from Pilates to plumbing, painting to Porsche! Throughout the event, the children impressed our visitors with their curiosity, confidence and thoughtful questions. Staff and visitors commented on how well the children engaged in conversations and how eager they were to learn more about different career pathways.

The event was full of exciting, hands-on experiences. Children were able to handle equipment, take part in games and activities to help them understand different roles, try on uniforms and clothing linked to careers and even sit inside a sports car or two! Experiences such as these help children to make meaningful links between learning in school and the opportunities available to them in the future. Empower today. Prepare for tomorrow.

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful visitors who gave up their time to inspire our children and support this special event. We are already looking forward to next year’s Careers Showcase.

Top 50

Our ‘Top 50’ is the term we give to the 50 opportunities we aim to provide for our children as they journey through our school. The Careers Showcase is on there, along with visits to museums and galleries.

Year 3 recently brought their history learning to life with an exciting visit to the Roman city of Chester. As part of their learning about the Romans, the children visited the Grosvenor Museum before heading to the famous Roman amphitheatre, where our Roman legionaries practised shield formations and battle readiness just like real soldiers from the past!

Throughout the day, the children loved getting hands-on with history by handling artefacts, solving Roman-themed puzzles and rebuilding models of Roman structures. Experiences such as these help children to move beyond simply reading about history in books - they allow children to see, touch and experience elements of the past for themselves. Bringing learning to life in this way helps children to remember more, understand historical concepts more clearly and develop a real curiosity and excitement about the world that came before them.

Year 5 recently enjoyed an exciting trip to the World Museum Liverpool as part of their Ancient Greeks history project. During the visit, the children took part in two fascinating workshops which focused on learning through artefacts and using historical clues to piece together the past.

The children explored a range of objects linked to Ancient Greek life and were encouraged to think like real historians — asking questions, making observations and using evidence to draw conclusions. Through handling artefacts and studying clues carefully, the children began to understand how historians build a picture of life from thousands of years ago, even when only small pieces of evidence remain.

Experiences such as these help children to develop important historical enquiry skills whilst making learning far more memorable and meaningful. By seeing and exploring real artefacts for themselves, the children were able to deepen their understanding of the Ancient Greeks and gain a real sense of excitement and curiosity about history.

SPORTS WEEK

This week has been our annual Sports Week - a fantastic celebration of teamwork, determination, encouragement and achieving personal bests. Throughout the week, the children have taken part in a wide range of sporting activities and challenges, focusing not only on competition but also on supporting one another, showing resilience and celebrating effort and improvement.

A huge thank you to all of the parents and family members who came along to support our Sports Days and cheer the children on. The atmosphere across the week has been wonderful, and it has been lovely to see the children encouraged by such positive support from the sidelines. We were especially grateful to receive some lovely feedback from parents in the crowd about the organisation of the events, the children’s attitudes and the positive spirit shown throughout the week.

Physical activity plays such an important role in children’s health, wellbeing and confidence, and Sports Week helps to shine a spotlight on the many different sports and sporting skills that children may wish to pursue both now and in the future. Whether running, balancing, throwing, teamwork activities or problem-solving challenges, every child has had the opportunity to find something they enjoy and feel proud of.

We would also like to say a huge well done to our Year 6 children, who have been outstanding throughout the week. They have shown maturity, leadership and kindness whilst helping to run activities, manage equipment and support the younger children to enjoy the events. They have been excellent role models and have truly helped the week to run 'like clockwork'!

'I just want to say a massive thank you and well done for the sports day experience today. You must be so proud of all your children and staff. I have never seen so much support and interaction from year 6 children to the younger children. What a lovely group of children they are. ‘

This week’s Pupil Tap gave the children a chance to share their opinions on different aspects of sport. Here are some of their responses:

New! Handbook for Families

We are also delighted to share our brand-new Handbook for Families and Visitors with our school community. This handbook is our attempt to 'bottle' the unique culture, values and character of life at Prescot Primary & Nursery School. It captures many of the special approaches, traditions and beliefs that help make our school such a positive, welcoming and ambitious place for children to learn and grow.

We would really encourage all parents and carers to take some time to read through it, as it helps to explain not only what we do, but why we do it. Many aspects of school life are carefully planned and rooted in research, experience and our shared vision of empowering children today in preparation for tomorrow. From our focus on children’s rights, belonging and oracy to our use of technology, enrichment opportunities and conservation projects, the handbook helps to paint a fuller picture of the values that sit behind everyday life at Prescot Primary.

We hope families find it informative, reassuring and a useful insight into the thinking and care that underpins our approach to education. Check your inbox for the link.

Reading Update

We have focused carefully on year 4 and their reading this half term and we are delighted with their response to this. Their resilience, their renewed enjoyment of reading and, of course, their results have been wonderful to witness.  Their sense of pride and ownership is refreshing and we are looking forward to next half term when they get a chance to do it all again.  So many of them will be joining in with their favourite reward day of the year: pyjama day.  We like to go a bit mad with this one so, oodies, pyjamas, teddies, slippers….  Children who reached their targets will get an invitation when we come back from our break and their teachers will tell them which day is best for them.

So far, our children have read almost 63,600,000 words between them, completing 14,000 quizzes.  They have borrowed books from the library 30,000 times, choosing from nearly 5,400 books.  Many of our books are donated from our families and we are incredibly grateful for this.  Please remember to attach your name to any donations so we can say thank you properly.  Could we also please ask, if you have any books at home which belong to the library would you pop them back in?  We miss them.

All of our readers and their achievements are valued, and every word read is important.  Our Head of Botheredness has, however,  taken reading to new heights.  Evangeline has clocked up a jaw-dropping 5 million words since September which is only the second time this has happened at Prescot Primary.  No-one has ever read  6 million words at our school…no pressure Evangeline!

Also, we would like to thank our families for their interest in the Book Fair.  There’s always a buzz around books when the fair visits and the funds raised help us to buy specific books for our topics.

Sporty Dog

Thanks to everyone who joined in with our 'Name the dog' competition. All proceeds will go towards our OPAL Playground fund. We will let you know how much our Sports Week fundraising collected.

You have been amazing.
