DECEMBER 2025

Welcome!

As the festive season approaches, we are delighted to welcome you to Prescot Primary School’s Christmas newsletter. This time of year is always filled with excitement, celebration and a wonderful sense of togetherness across our school community.

The past few weeks have been especially busy, with classrooms buzzing as pupils take part in sing-alongs, nativity performances, the KS2 Talent Show, festive crafts, The Elf Run, the panto and parties. Our children have worked incredibly hard and shown enthusiasm, creativity and kindness in everything they have done, making this a truly joyful end to the term.

Christmas is also a time to pause and reflect. As we look back over the past year, we are incredibly proud of all that our pupils have achieved, both academically and personally. We would like to thank our dedicated staff, supportive families and the wider school community for working together to make Prescot Primary School and Nursery such a positive and caring place to learn.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

As we come to the end of another fantastic, festive filled half term, we want to thank our families for your continued support and trust in us.

We started the half term with celebrating Bonfire Night by making fabulous firework pictures and then jumped in both feet first to start the celebration of Christmas. The children have been busy making wonderful creations with a sprinkle of glitter, faces full of smiles and festive cheer.

We ended the half term in After School Club with yummy hot chocolate and gingerbread men whilst watching The Nativity.

Many thanks for the lovely cards, words and gifts.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and new year and look forward to seeing you all in 2026.

Early Years Update

What a wonderfully busy and festive half term it has been in EYFS! Our Nursery children enjoyed a magical walk to the post box, proudly clutching their carefully written letters to the North Pole. The excitement on their faces was truly special as each child took a turn to post their envelope. The magic continued this week when letters arrived back for the children, their reactions were priceless and added an extra sparkle to our days.

Across EYFS, we have also been getting into the festive spirit with two fabulous

Sing-Along sessions as part of our Christmas performance preparations. The children sang with such confidence, joy and enthusiasm, and we could not be prouder of each and every one of them. Their hard work really shone through, creating moments that were both heart-warming and memorable.

It has been a half term full of learning, laughter and magical experiences. We are certainly feeling the Christmas spirit throughout EYFS and look forward to even more exciting adventures in the new year!

Mrs Davies

Assistant Head for EYFS

SEND Update

Holidays can be tricky for some children as they can be long with little structure. See below for a timetable of the holidays to help children to know what is coming next. You can adapt this to suit your Christmas activities.

Attendance Update

As you are aware we have a renewed focus on our school's attendance rates and are keen to raise our overall attendance by working closer with families. We want to keep families informed on their child's attendance so far and of any areas of concern. This transparency will help us to have really supportive discussions and could lead to us putting further support in place which will help children at attend school consistently well.

See below for our Autumn update.

Sickness absence

It can be tricky deciding if your child is too unwell to attend school. Most mild illnesses DO NOT require time off school, unless your child has a temperature. This government guidance may help:

PCP Christmas Traditions

Thank you to everyone who has joined us in school this week to support your Christmas stars. Our EYFS Singalong, KS1 Nativity performances and Rocksteady concert were full of life and smiles. The famous PCP Talent Show was also a huge success as KS2 classes performed their yeargroup productions based around the Frozen film.

These performances are about so much more than the final show, as they celebrate the many small but important achievements children make along the way. Learning lines and songs, remembering actions, standing confidently on stage, wearing a costume, and performing in front of an audience all help to build confidence, resilience and teamwork. For some children, simply joining in, speaking a single line, singing a song, or standing proudly with their class is a huge personal success. These moments reflect the courage, effort and growth each child shows, and every achievement - no matter how small - deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

Well done to Rebekah Ritson who won the Mayor of Prescot's Christmas card competition and also to Millie Ann Mathison who correctly named the elf - Star!

The Elf Run

As a result of Elf Run this year, we have contemplated changing our uniform policy to elf outfits! This was because we smiled all day long as classrooms and corridors filled with elves in aid of NHS England. Imagine if we had this joy every day of the year!

Our little elves completed many laps of the field under a beautiful blue sky and together, we have so far managed to raise £2,886 for the NHS. Thank you for being so bothered! We will have a visit from a representative from Whiston Hospital in the new year.

Our Christmas Fair

What a successful evening we had together at this year’s Christmas Fair. We have worked together with our resident football team, the Glenbuck Juniors to plan a bigger event and we were so pleased with the support we received. Whilst it’s tricky to gauge a time that is perfect for everyone, most people seemed to appreciate the later start - and the weather stayed kind to us too.

Thank you if you braved the dark night to come and spend a little at our stalls. We managed to raise over £2300 which will be shared between the Glenbucks and ourselves. We will continue to invest our funds in developing playgrounds that engage our children in healthy play and we look forward to collaborating with the wonderful Glenbucks in the future.

Reading Update

Life at Prescot Primary is never busier than this time of year, yet still our children find time and space to settle with a book, whether it be at home or at school.  We are dazzled by their commitment to their reading and towards reaching their targets.  In the New Year, we will be renewing our determination to leave no reader behind, and will be working very closely with years 3 and 4 to support them on their reading journey.  Reading rewards will be awarded to those children who have reached their autumn targets, and now they have their iPads, year 3 will join us in our half-termly quest to achieve.

We have congratulated two word millionaires already since September, and eight half word millionaires.  Our children have read a total of 26,500,00 words, quizzed on 5,500 books and borrowed 2700 books from our library.  With your generous donations we have added 500 new books to our shelves and as always we are so grateful for this.  If any families find their bookcases groaning with new books over the festive period, we would love to offer homes to older, pre-loved books.

Merry Christmas, everyone

Watchfactory News!

We have resumed our fortnightly visits to our friends in The Watchfactory, Prescot, this half term. We take a group of 10 children from different classes on each visit who them chat with the residents and play games. Our friends are teaching the children how to play dominoes and cards as well as having the best of chats.

This week, our PCP Choir walked to The Watchfactory to perform some Christmas carols and spread some Christmas cheer. This was much appreciated at The Watchfactory and was a great experience for our young performers.

Rights Respecting School and 'No Outsiders'

At Prescot Primary and Nursery School, our vision is to ‘Empower Today. Prepare for Tomorrow’. We believe that the No Outsiders programme is central to preparing our children for their futures.

In line with this, our commitment to being a Rights Respecting School underpins everything we do. We work to embed the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) throughout school life, ensuring that every child knows their rights and understands the importance of respecting the rights of others. Central to this is the belief that everyone has the right to be included, valued, and treated with dignity.

The No Outsiders programme supports this vision by teaching children from the earliest years about equality, diversity, and inclusion in a progressive and age-appropriate way. Through carefully chosen picture books, stories, and discussions, children learn to celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes, and stand up against discrimination.

We will be continuing our classwork on No Outsiders in January, when each year group will read and complete activities on one of their chosen No Outsiders texts; these include such lovely stories as ‘Beegu’ and ‘Six Dots’. Look out for updates on Instagram.

Sports Challenges

It has been a busy and exciting time for sport at Prescot Primary. Our pupils recently took part in two fantastic football competitions at the LFC Academy, competing in both a 6-a-side and a 5-a-side tournament and showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

We also enjoyed a brilliant family running event, which helped kickstart our Silver Healthy Schools pledge and brought our school community together in a positive and active way. Our weekly running club has gone from strength to strength, with pupils embracing the fresh, crisp winter mornings and showing fantastic determination and enthusiasm to keep active all year round.

Family Tap!

Thank you to all of the families who have joined in with our quick monthly surveys which are aimed to discover your views on life at prescot Primary. So far, we have found out that:

  • 53.7% of you think that the main benefit of attending school everyday is that children learn more, keep up with lessons and make more progress.

  • 94.1% of you prefer school uniform as it makes things easier and more equitable for all.

  • 73.9% are very happy with the school’s Christmas schedule and want children to have fun in school at this time of year.

Look out for more monthly survey questions in the new year. It doesn’t take very long to answer, just one (or  two) quick taps will help us to gather your views.
