Autumn is in full swing, and our school is buzzing with excitement, learning and botheredness! As the leaves change and the weather turns crisp, the coming half term brings plenty of opportunities for creativity and curiosity. This month, we’re celebrating the wonderful progress our students have made so far. Thanks for a great turn-out at this week's Parents' Evening - it was lovely to see you. It's particularly nice to be growing relationships with all of our new Reception families - your little Koalas have made a fantastic start. We’re so proud of our pupils’ hard work and enthusiasm - thank you to all our families for your continued support in making our school such a vibrant and caring place to learn.

Here's looking forward to Autumn 2.

SILVER Healthy Schools Award

We are one of 30 Knowsley schools who are committed to promoting a healthier diet and lifestyle to all of our children. We announced in February that we have achieved our Healthy Schools Bronze Award after reviewing our menus,  reducing sugary desserts and offering alternative playtime snacks.

We’re excited to announce that our Family Running Club Morning on Friday 7th November (8:00–8:45am) will mark the launch of our Silver Knowsley Healthy School Award campaign. This special event will bring children, families and staff together to get active, strengthen our home-school connections and celebrate healthy living. There’ll be refreshments available to purchase and some fantastic prizes to be won in our raffle – tickets are £1 each. We can’t wait to see our families join us for a positive, community-focused start to the day! Find the email about this event in Arbor.

Early Years Update

We are delighted to welcome all our new Nursery and Reception children into our Prescot family. The children have settled beautifully into school life, following rules and routines, exploring their new environment, and developing wonderful friendships with both staff and peers.

It has been a joy to see their confidence grow each day as they embrace new experiences with such enthusiasm and curiosity. We are incredibly proud of how well they have started their learning journey, a truly gorgeous start to the new school year!

SEND Update

We are very proud of Miss Cannon and Mrs Smith from Reception who have recently completed their Elklan 'Communication Friendly Training'. This officially means that we are now a Communication Friendly EYFS setting. Communication Friendly schools have made a commitment to supporting speech, language and communication development in all pupils.

A Communication Friendly School is one where:

  • Staff are trained and confident in understanding speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).

  • The school environment and practices are designed to support all children’s communication, not just those with identified needs.

  • Communication support is embedded across the curriculum and school culture.

We look forward to sharing some of our expertise with you over the coming year.

Attendance

This year, we have identified the attendance of all pupils as a priority for our school. It is the right of every child to access education and we think it is the duty of adults to ensure regular attendance at school.

We have analysed holidays already taken this year and have seen a steady incrtease on holidays taken in term time year on year. Alongside this, we are seeing more unauthorised absences (not due to sickness) and an increase in children being picked up early at the end of the day, (this is just as disruptive to learning as being dropped off late in the morning).

To support adults in getting children to school, we are currently creating an Attendance handbook, containing guidance and contacts in school. Below is an easy timeline for you to keep handy so that you are aware of our expectations and recording codes should your child miss time in school.

Obviously, if youre child is unwell, we would not expect them to be in school.

If you have any attendance queries, please contact Mrs Collis or Mr Dobson.

Sporting Highlights

It’s been another fantastic half term for sport at Prescot Primary! Our pupils have represented the school brilliantly in a range of events, including the Everton Premier League Primary Stars tournament, Everton Finch Farm competition, Prescot Primary School League fixtures and friendly matches against Evelyn. We’ve also continued to take part in cross-country events across Knowsley and Liverpool, showing real determination and team spirit. A special mention goes to our dodgeball team, who finished an impressive second place – it was a brilliant afternoon of competitive fun and great sportsmanship all round.

Have your say!

Last term, we engaged our children in more decision-making skills by giving them a weekly challenge... and this continues to be a popular part of the week. Every Monday morning, a new question is released and the KS2 children are invited to have their say via a survey link on their iPads. This is a great way to promote oracy and reasoning skills and the children area always eager to find out what the next question will be.

We loved this idea so much that we thought we would try it with adults at home too - we've called it 'Family Tap' as you can join in with just one (or maybe two) taps! Over the last two weeks, we have asked adults and then the children what they thought was the main reason for coming to school every day. See the results below ... the two surveys showed very similar results!

These surveys will continue throughout the year - look out for them on Arbor.

Reading Update

As we expect at Prescot Primary, we have had a very positive start to our reading year.  Our children have responded so well to our new library opening hours, and our Year 5 and 6 Reading Leaders are doing an incredible job of keeping our library running like clockwork.  Everyone benefits from this and we are seeing so many bothered readers.  We know we are raising standards and improving our children’s future life opportunities by providing them with iPads, Accelerated Reader, targets and rewards, and our incredible library; they just see it as reading!

We are inching closer to our first Word Millionaires so watch this space.  It gives us another reason to reward our readers for all they achieve.  It’s very appropriate that our first half word millionaire is also our Head of Botherdness.  You lead by example, Evangeline.

Thank you, as always, to our families who donate books and keep our library current and interesting.  Please remember to slip a note into your donations so we can always know who to thank.  Every book donated offers a new reading opportunity.

Lastly, we’d like to remind you that reaching your reading targets means 5 hours added to your Prescot Pilots log, and that signing up to Monday night Reading Club adds an hour a week, so keep those forms up to date!

If you still need some guidance on how our Accelerated Reader programme, works, we have recently sent out some information slides via Arbor. We know about every aspect of your child's reading habits and progress - how many words read, accuracy levels, fluency and what books are their favourite. It's even better if we have your support at home to boost reading practice and confidence. Here are some of the slides.

Looking ahead...

Whilst we don't like saying the 'C' word too soon, we can't help but be excited by our planned Christams Fair, working in collaboration with our resident Football Team, The Glenbuck Juniors. Over the coming weeks, we will be asking for donations to help support the planned stalls and games. We know that this can be an expensive time of the year, so please only hlp if you feel that you can.

Save the date so that you can join in the fun... you may even catch a glimpse of Santa himself!

Roof Update

Thank you for being patient and working around our areas of construction. We hope to have the middle yard clear after half term and the canteen area will be a further two weeks after that. We can't wait to get back to normal!

Forward financial planning!
