Careers Week 24
As a Rights Respecting School, we place importance on enabling our children to look into the future and the kinds of careers they may want to pursue - even for our smallest children.
Each year, we hold a Careers Showcase and invite visitors to join us in promoting an inclusive, diverse view of the world of work.
This year, we loved saying hello to representatives from Matalan, Unilever, Astra Zeneca, QVC, MCC Digital and the Cheshire Downs Syndrome Trust. We also welcomed parents who were able to showcase being a vet and an engineer. Thanks to all of our visitors!
As part of Career's Week and a national writing task, Year 5 have been writing about their ideal job. James N in 5S wrote about being a vet - here’s a short sample of his writing:
If you like helping animals then this is the job for you. My dream job is a vet and I think you will love it too. Animals are very important in this world and keeping them safe and healthy is what you can do in return. In this job, you will need to love animals and be okay around blood. You will need to either open up an animal to see if there is any damage or if it’s hurt on the outside, you will need to look at it and solve the problem.
As a vet, you will work at a veterinary practice, remote, rural areas or in a laboratory. Sometimes you might need to work outside, you may also need to wear a uniform or protective clothing.
One of our pupils also wrote a letter of thanks:
First, a big thank you!
Thank you for coming to our school on Friday. It was very interesting and I was intrigued about your brilliant jobs! You explained your job very clearly and I understood every bit but my favourite was the activities (it's alright if you didn't have one - I still enjoyed it). You answered my questions and made it easy to understand every bit because when I researched them it didn't make any sense!
You listened to everything I said and really believed that I could be an actress. I really enjoyed it, so thank you very much!
Yours sincerely,
Alice, Y5S
