MARCH 2024

Welcome!

We have reached the end of another full term at Prescot Primary. It has been a rewarding time for us as we have welcomed many teaching professionals through our doors to see our good practice in action, especially with regard to our SEND provision and how teachers teach and children learn with the help of technology.

Earlier this month our annual Challenge Partner Review took place. We welcomed school leaders from all over the country to quality assure and support us in reviewing our provision and deciding on next steps. We always feel that this process is an extremely supportive one and were very happy with the feedback we received. Our whole school team work hard throughout the year to ensure that we are always putting the learner first - and this was recognised during the review.

Our 2024 Challenge Partner report has been emailed to families.

You can find out more about Challenge Partners here:

Breakfast Club and After School Club

Breakfast Club (Early Birds) and After School Club (Night Owls)

What a busy term we have had! The children in our wrap-around clubs have been very creative, playing, learning and spending time with their friends. The independence of our 'little learners’ is growing and supported by our older children who love to nurture them.

Soon we will be able to make full use of our amazing field to enhance play and fun opportunities when the weather warms up.  Check out “X” for pictures of our adventures on @PCP_BC_ASC.

From 7:30 am to 5:30pm you can ensure that your children are safe in our care and if you have any enquiries about our clubs please contact our Admin Team at: admin@prescotprimary.org.uk  during the next half term.

The booking windows for Summer Term 1 are now open.  You can still book weekly (a week in advance) or block book until the end of the half term.

You have until 11th April to book for the first week back!

We thank you for adhering to our policies and procedures when booking clubs and your support in this enables the clubs to be managed efficiently - THANK YOU.

Early Years Update

It has certainly been an egg-citing half term in our Nursery and Reception classes.

It has been such a busy half term in nursery, we have enjoyed learning about the lifecycles of frogs and butterflies, and have watched our caterpillars grow and spin their cocoons. We have planted beans and looked after them by making sure they had enough water and sunlight. We are amazed at how tall they have grown already! Our role play area has been a florist and we have had lots of fun selling the flowers in our shop. We loved having our grown-ups come and play in nursery with us for stay and play so that we could show them all of the things that we like to do in nursery.

In Reception, we loved observing the changes to the eggs and watching them hatch into our gorgeous fluffy little chicks! It has been so magical and certainly an experience that we won’t forget!

RRSA Update

We continue to grow and develop different ways to encourage our children to use their voices to act for change. We will be planning more Rights Respecting Coffee Mornings and are excited to be working with Whiston Willis (another GOLD RRS) to welcome local schools in to explore the UNICEF Convention with us.

If you have a strong interest in our Rights Respecting programme and would like to be involved, please let us know.

On Thursday 4th April Prescot Town Council Recycle Shop will be open from 11am to 3pm. If your little boys enthusiastic skidding on the floor has left his trouser knees threadbare, or if your daughter has had a growth spurt or if you need shorts or summer dresses for the new term, call in and we will try and meet your needs.

Monarch Mondays!

Our termly Monarch Mondays really help the children to learn all about their year group's key monarch.

EYFS: Fictional Kings and Queens

Y1: Queen Elizabeth II

Y2: Queen Victoria

Y3: King Henry VIII

Y4: William the Conquerer

Y5: King John

Y6: King George VI

Our third Monarch Monday will take place on Mon 15th April. The children will learn all about the life of their key monarch and how they were viewed by others. They will use historical sources to find out the truth - or what we think is the truth - about the life of their significant ruler.

You may want to talk to your child about British monarchs in the past and the current royal family. #pcphistory

Reading Update

The nights are getting lighter and the days are getting longer…all the more time for our Prescot Primary bookworms to enjoy their reading.  Our children have lots of different activities and technologies to divide their time between but still choose reading as one of their main pastimes.  We enjoy focused reading time every day in school, with children reading individually and collectively listening to a class reading book, which of course they can quiz on.  Our most successful readers also find time at home to enjoy a book: we know that reading before bedtime is a great way to finish off a busy day and prepare for sleep.

We have recently started to celebrate children who have reached the half-a-million words milestone.  It’s a great achievement and many of these readers will go on to be Word Millionaires.  Accelerated Reader gives us so much scope to identify and celebrate all of this botheredness.  You’ll find our half-millionaires on Twitter using the hashtag pcpreading; there are 45 of them so far this year!

Drama Club Success

We have been having so much fun this half term in Drama Club. We have been working on our improvisation skills, learned how to deliver a monologue, performed a table read of our script so far (written Y6's very own Frankie!), and it wouldn't be Drama Club without singing a few songs! Here are some comments from our superstars:

I like that Drama Club is very including and full of energy it makes me feel happy and like a star I love it lots - Daisy M Y6

Drama makes me feel happy and gets my mind off of things that make me feel sad I like Drama Club and expressing myself - Amy Y4

Drama Club makes me feel like I belong - Arthur Y5

It makes me feel happy inside my heart - Daisy H Y6

I like Drama Club because it is full of drama!!! It makes me feel safe and comfortable. You can express your feelings with power - Kaidee Y4

I feel safe inside Drama Club - Evangeline Y4

I have seen such a difference in these children in such a short amount of time, they amaze me every week with their passion and skills. We can't wait to put on a show for you all! Dates and times to follow, watch this space...

Miss Ellen

Forward planning...

A calendar has been sent by email of dates for the summer term - including Sports Week and some Y6 events (although there are more to be added).

Please keep this to hand as we enter the busiest term of the year!

Goodbye for now!

We would like to say 'goodbye for now' to Mrs Collis in Y2BC who is ready to start her maternity leave. Sending lots of best wishes to Mrs Collis and her family and we can't wait to meet the new arrival.
