DECEMBER 2022

Welcome

{alt_tag}

Hello everyone! Welcome to the final newsletter of the year.

We have had such a busy festive period, getting back to old traditions with lots of fun had by all. Thank you for coming to support our children in their sing-a-longs and nativities - and for supporting the wider school community by attending the 'mini' Christmas markets, finding Santa outfits for the dash and donating to our hamper scheme. The above mystery Christmas tree was - of course - our own Mrs Higgs who goes above & beyond to make the start of the school day a warm and inviting experience - we thank her for her dedication.

Making Christmas special really has been a team effort. Together, we have raised £1,103.41 which will go into school funds to support our children in 2023.

All of the festivities of course, came at the end of the longest term of the year that saw the children settle into new year groups, rooms and routines. With your help, the children have made a great start to 2022/2023 and we can't wait to see what achievements the new year holds for everyone!

Early Years Update

Our EYFS children presented a fantastic Christmas sing-a-long and their families did a great job of joining in! We hope you agree that this is a much more enjoyable experience for our little ones. A great success.

Perhaps the most magical outing of the festive period was the Nursery walk to the 'Magic Post-box', where the children posted their letters to Santa. It was wonderful to hear the chatter as our little learners experienced their first school trip! We hope they all receive a reply from Santa!

A couple of reminders:

In January, our afternoon Nursery session will open. We still have places available so please do contact the main office on 0151 432 7100 if you - or someone you know is interested.

The deadline for Reception places is SUNDAY 15th JANUARY. You must apply online, not via the school. For KMBC residents, apply here: https://parentportal.knowsley.gov.uk/web/portal/pages/parents/admissions

If you live out of authority, please apply through your local council's system.

Attendance

Unfortunately, school attendance has suffered during this last half term.  We hope January 2023 sees a return to our usual attendance figures.

There are some reminders that we feel are important:

  • Please contact school by email or phone as soon as you know that your child is unwell and will not be attending school. This will reduce the calls our 'first response' team make each morning.
  • Gates close at 8.50am. You must sign in at the main office after this time. Late arrivals are monitored and we may need to have a review with you if lateness continues.
  • Please avoid picking up your child early, unless for unavoidable medical appointments. We have seen an increase in occurrence of this, and it does, again, impact negatively on your child's day.
  • If you know you will be late to pick up your child, for some unavoidable reason, please ring ahead. Your child will be waiting in the main office for you.

Reading success

Readers at PCP continue to amaze and astound us.  They have already read over 31,000,000 words since September meaning they are more than on track to beat last year’s final total of over 100,000,000 words.  Plus, we have already celebrated 3 Word Millionaires who have each received a Golden Goody Bag, had their name inscribed on the Star Hall of Fame, and have treated themselves to a huge dose of self-satisfaction and pride.  Massive congratulations to: Ashvinth, Jessica and Teju, all from Year 6 Dragons.  We are sure there will be more before we break up for Christmas.

Children have borrowed more than 3000 books from the Library since September.  They have become so independent and confident in choosing the right books to read, and in logging them in and out of the Library with their iPads.  Our children show us every day how much reading and books mean to them and we share their commitment.  Four of our children are particularly keen to ensure the Library is the best space it can be, so a big thank you to Kalli-Jo, Abiram, Jessica and Joe B.  They really are bothered.

Our latest reward for readers reaching their target will be shared on 19th December.  As always, we love to celebrate all of our children’s reading achievements and this is such a good and fair way to do this.  So keep reading everyone, and hopefully Santa will bring you all some books for your stockings!

Rights Respecting School Update

Our Rights Respecting School team has grown! It now includes elected representatives from Y3, 4 and 5. Well done to all of the children below who wrote fantastic, heart-felt applications including changes that they would like to see around school. These included more multi-lingual signage and more ramps to make all areas of school accessible. Great ideas!

We will start our RRS Steering Group meetings in the new year. The children will then look at ways that we can make the changes happen. If you know of any companies or businesses that can help us, please do get in touch. Thank you if you are a parent/carer who has shown an interest, we will be in touch!

We want to spend 2023 making our school even better and with the help of the children, we will!

Tigers go travelling

Our PCPTigers have been really lucky this term, with two exciting school trips.

The Tigers first travelled to Chester to march with Roman soldiers, investigate artefacts and explore the Roman way of life. They were so well-behaved that a passing couple even emailed in to comment on our children's conduct. So proud!

The Tigers were then invited to see a performance of 'A Christmas Carol' in the Shakespeare North Playhouse, which they enjoyed enormously.

More excursions are planned for other year groups in the spring term ... let's hope all children can live up to the excellent behaviour of Y4!

Talent Show 2023!

When we chose 'The Greatest Showman' as our 2022 Talent Show theme, we knew it would be amazing... and we weren't wrong! The underlying ideals and beliefs of the film really resonate with our school values of equality and respect. The children and staff took the competition very seriously, as usual, and we all enjoyed a fantastic live show - the first since 2019.

The winners, our Y5 Kangaroos, demonstrated the principles of 'No Outsiders' within their rendition of 'This is me'. They used sign language and showed us how to treat each other with kindness.

Well done all KS2 yeargroups for a fabulous Talent Show. What a way to return!

Prescot Pilots Autumn 2022

As we write, the Autumn Pilot Logs are being returned for the Captains to check. Many of our Prescot Pilots have been extremely busy throughout the autumn term, learning outside of the classroom walls and hours. It has been wonderful to see and hear about lots of achievements in clubs inside and outside of school, including football, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, dodgeball, break-dancing, horse-riding and so much more.

In January, we will issue the Spring Pilot Logs (paper and digital) so that our pilots can continue their flights of success.

Thank you to all of the parents, carers and children who have committed to our Prescot Pilots scheme.

SEND Update

After attending recent training on 'Adverse Childhood Experiences' (ACES) and being more trauma-aware, our SEND team would like to remind parents and carers that there are some high-quality resources on the Liverpool CAMHS website: https://www.liverpoolcamhs.com/

Should you need any help over the Christmas period, this maybe worth a look.

Our SEND team are in the process of planning SEND drop-in sessions for the spring term, which we're sure will be a welcome addition to our already excellent SEND provision. Please look out for an email with the details.

Online Safety

As always, when a school holiday is imminent, we would like to remind you of the importance of online safety, especially when your children may get a new device or game for Christmas.

Whilst we cover many aspects of online safety in school, we would like to point you in the direction of some quality websites where you can find useful information and guidance. Our own website now has a stock of online newsletters that could prove useful too:

http://www.prescotprimary.org.uk/information/online-safety

https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/

https://www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre/

https://beinternetlegends.withgoogle.com/en_uk/buildyourlegend/

Please do get in touch if you have any worries about your child's online activity. We must work in teams to protect our children from any dangers that the online world may present.

Breakfast Club & After School Club Update

ASC/BC windows will be open from 15/12/22 @ 5:05 pm until 02/01/23 for clubs starting on 04/01/23.

Thank you to everyone who donated cakes for the Christmas markets - it's always a popular stall!

From all of us in TEAMPCP, we hope that you have a safe and happy festive break with lots of family time and smiles.

See you on Wednesday 4th January for a great start to 2023!
