May 2025

Welcome!

Here we are at the end of another half term. Our school community continues to be as busy as ever. We have welcomed visitors, been on trips, completed SATs, a Careers Showcase and Sports Week! And amongst all this we've worked really hard in class.

Read on to find about our learning adventures and school news.

Early Years Update

It’s been another wonderfully busy half-term in Early Years! Our nursery children have been full of excitement as they look forward to their upcoming visits to Blue School after the break. We’re also delighted to share that our Reception is once again full, with a waiting list in place. These will be our PCP Koalas! After half-term, children will begin visiting their Reception classrooms weekly to help with a smooth transition.

September 2025 nursery places have now been allocated, and we’re thrilled with the strong numbers once again. If you, or someone you know, has a child turning three soon, please ensure they email admissions@prescotprimary.org.uk to get their child’s details added to our nursery list.

Breakfast Club and After School Club

The sunshine has given us some incredible outdoor opportunities over the last month! We have enjoyed every minute of our outdoor play and having the school field all to ourselves.

If your child needs wrap-around care, come in and chat to the team about joining our Breakfact (Early Birds) and After school Club (Night Owls).

PSHE: Road safety

All across school, we have been learning more about road safety from Knowsley's Road Safety Team.

Year 2 have enjoyed three important road safety sessions delivered by a Senior Road Safety and Active Travel Officer from Knowsley Council called Annette. Each session included visuals of different scenarios that our children may experience. For example, crossing the road in different places or chasing after a ball that has gone into the road. All children were very sensible at discussing the safest option within the different scenarios. The children were introduced to the meanings of road markings and signs and how important it is to always wear your seatbelt.

These messages are constantly taught and reinforced by our staff. Here is some useful guidance for parents and carers:

Y5 Active Learning

Year 5 have had some visitors from the Merseyside Police and have been learning about the judicial system. Each person in the class took on a role from a trial. We had witnesses, prosecution, defence, public gallery viewers, members of the jury, a judge and of course the accused character who was Goldilocks!

Year 5 have also visited Liverpool Museum as part of their Pharaohs topic. They explored the museum and took part in a mummification workshop (fortunately, no brains or internal organs were removed from any pupils).

PCP Artists

At the start of this half term, we were asked to take part in an art project in collaboration with Prescot Shopping Centre. Some of our most-talented artists across school gathered to create a whole collection of paintings inspired by cherry blossom trees. Our group walked into Prescot and helped to display their paintings inside one of the empty shop windows. We think this is a great way to showcase the artwork of local schoolchildren and hope to continue our partnership with the centre. #pcpart

Attendance

This half term, our whole-school attendance stands at 93.69%. While this is a positive start, we are aiming to reach 95% in Summer Term 2, and we know we can achieve this together.

A big well done to the Zebras year group, who are leading the way with an impressive 96.53%—a fantastic effort! As always, we’d like to remind families how important it is for children to be in school every day. Good attendance supports learning, builds friendships, and helps children develop good routines and habits for life. Let’s all work together to make every day count next half term! If your child is unwell and unable to attend, please make sure to report their absence as soon as possible on the day.

Sports Week 2025!

Wow! That must be one of our sunniest Sports Weeks ever!

The children have been immersed in all things physical and have enjoyed trying to beat a whole host of personal bests. Sport brings out many qualities in our children - competitiveness, determination, appreciation and empathy being amongst a few. We have seen such 'botheredness' across all ages this week. We have seen our children cheer on their classmates and reach out to help them along. The staff have been so proud of each sporting achievement, big or small, and of the children's excellent behaviour.

The children have loved the fundraising challenges although - as always - the 'Sponge the Teacher' event seemed to be the most popular!

Thanks to Mr Dobson, for leading the week's events and thanks to our Y5 and Y6 Sports Leaders who have worked really hard to prepare and organise all of the equipment - including the pink wigs!

The Masked Racer

Way back at the start of the year, a dear friend and longstanding champion of our school showed us a video of a silly teachers' race that made us all giggle. It was suggested that we could try one of our own. That idea grew into a reality because of an amazing staff team who wanted to add some fun to Sports Week whilst raising money for a very worthy cause, Willowbrook Hospice.

Well done to Mrs Ewing as the speedy rooster who crossed the line first!

Please bring in all sponsor money by Fri 13th June. Thank you so much!

Careers Showcase 2025

Our Careers Week, with our Showcase event,  is an important part of our PSHE curriculum and poses many questions for our little minds. Would I like to work inside or outside? At night or in the day? Would I want to travel for my work in the future? Do I want to work in music, construction, technology or in public service? This event certainly got our children talking about the world of work!

We welcomed a plumber, an aviation engineer, an artist,  youth workers, a dentist, a physiotherapist, a university researcher, Merseyside Police, construction and engineering employees and representatives from the world of technology. It was a very vibrant afternoon which the children clearly enjoyed.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to support us... roll on next year!

Pathways to Write

This term our new writing scheme ‘Pathways to Write' was launched across the whole school.  This is a writing program for primary schools with a proven mythology built around units of work which develop vocabulary, reading and writing skills through the mastery approach.  We have been using beautiful books including ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ and ‘The Brilliant Deep’ to engage our children.

We have seen wonderful writing being produced across the school such as poems in the shape of a diamond from year 2.  There will be a display celebrating our school's writing journey in our corridor next half term. #pcpwriting

SEND Update

If your child has special educational needs and you would like to know more about how to support their learning at home then you can contact Liverpool and Knowsley SENDIASS. Their website gives information on various topics on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

https://www.knowsleyinfo.co.uk/content/sendiass

We have been asked to share this survey with all SEND parents and carers in Knowsley. Click this link or scan the QR to share your views.

There are some Parent drop-in sessions at the Family Hub, these are very supportive groups for the parents of children with SEND needs. This is just for parents/carers, children do not attend. The next couple of sessions are Thursday 5th June at George Howard Centre, Lickers Lane, Whiston 9.30-11am and Thursday 3rd June, same venue and times.

Below is the visual timetable for this half-term holiday. This helps children to understand the length of their holiday and prepares them for the return to school.

CONSERVATION PROJECT 2025

After 330 responses from all over the school community, we can reveal that the overwhelming front-runner for this year's conservation project is...'Honeybee Heroes!' This will be our 7th consecutive conservation project.

School staff have spent a recent INSET day planning different projects that all link to this theme. Children all across school will soon be learning about the anatomy of bees, pollination, how honey is made and what threats are endangering our native honeybee.

We are planning to display the children's work in an exhibition in the school hall that we will invite families to in July. We intend to use as many recycled, recyclable or re-purposed materials as possible - you can help us by donating bubble wrap, brown packing paper, jam jars with lids or long cardboard tubes. We will also be holding a celebration where we will invite the children to design and wear their own campaign T-shirts highlighting the plight of the honeybee Yellow/black outfits are also welcome.. More information to follow! Exciting times.

ECO-Friendly improvements all over school

In response to the Global Goals campaign and guidance from the government, we are continuing to prioritise sustainability and environmental factors when making decisions about life in school. Our canteen has made some small changes that will decrease the amount of waste as well as help children to make healthier dietary choices.

Some of the changes made:

  • No more sachets of ketchup, vinegar or salt. Replaced with reusable dispensers.
  • No more individual servings of butter or spread cheese. Children can help themselves from tubs.
  • No more disposable individual icecream or yogurt pots, now served in bowls from larger containers.
  • Water and milk drink choices are encouraged.
  • Food waste is collected in a separate bin.
  • Natural yogurt with fruit, oat & honey toppings is the dessert of choice. Cookies and cake are only served twice a week.

More to come! Watch this space.

Reading Update

We don’t have long to go until the end of a very successful year of reading at PCP.  We feel that more than ever our children have strong ownership of their reading and their library, and hearing their constant conversations about targets and quizzing are exciting to hear.  Don’t forget that parents and carers have full access to what their child is reading on their child’s iPad.

Reading club has been very busy; we advise that you book your children on early through Arbor as it does get booked up.  Our biggest delight is seeing children from Y1 to Y6 sharing books and time in our wonderful library (and again we thank you all for the donations of books which benefit everyone).

Our latest reading challenge has seen so many children reach their targets and they will be rewarded after the Whit break with a pyjama day and a choccy treat.  Look out for the invitation certificate when we come back.  We do everything we can to encourage our children to reach their targets and reading at home is one way to ensure they succeed, especially just before bed.

Our new stage!

We are over the moon with our brand new stage that has been built for us by Built Group Ltd as part of a social value project. We love to see a local company so bothered about helping others, especially when it has brought joy to so many of us over the past sunny month! We also want to say thanks to the EFT Group who have fitted some external electrical sockets for us that will make playtime more enjoyable for the children.

Football Fan? Looking for a new club?

This great team play here at Prescot Primary; we love our growing partnership with them as they share all the same values as us and are exceptionally 'bothered' about making the world a better place for our children.
