We love sharing our news and our children’s achievements with you and the world and are using Twitter more than ever to communicate. Please follow your child’s class on Twitter or even just the main school feed: @PrescotPrimary. We love to hear your positive comments about activities in school. We would always encourage you, however, to see a teacher or the Admin Team in the main office with any specific questions.

Our website also holds a wealth of information about our school and each class has it’s own blog, (click ‘Classes’ on the menu).

The Y6 Adventure

Once again, Y6 travelled to PGL Boreatton Park near Oswestry for four days of excitement, challenges, great food, some emotional ‘pits’ and just a little bit of mud! Our children faced a variety of activities such as abseiling, raft building, giant swings and zip-wires, archery and assault courses. All of our school values were shown by the staff and children but the supportive sense of team spirit was most evident. Well done everybody! Once again, thanks goes to Whitaker’s Garden Centre for helping us out with a safe parking space for the coach.

Opening times

Please remember that the school doors open at 8.30am (currently Y2-6, with Y1 after half term). This is our Early Doors initiative and it works effectively. Children are supervised in class as they have the opportunity to begin their learning earlier than most other schools in the country. A light breakfast of cereal and fruit is provided free of charge within each classroom.

Some Sports Clubs run from 8am and therefore the side gate will be open.

There is no supervision on the yard for children arriving at school from 8 - 8.30am. This is an especially busy time when staff arrive and park their cars.

For safeguarding reasons, the gates onto the main yard are locked until just before 8.30am.Please try to avoid arriving too early onto the school premises. Registration takes place at 8.50am when the gates are locked. Children who are late should enter school through the main office and give their name in at the desk before going to class.

Fruit madness!

As a school, we are passionate about encouraging our children to live a healthy lifestyle. As a result, we provide fruit for every year group in school. This is offered at playtime and during the afternoon if supplies last! The children are enjoying the selection and it is wonderful to see some really healthy choices being made. Please be mindful of the types of snacks that you send in for playtime. Sugary sweets and snacks should be avoided as they do not aid concentration or promote healthy diet choices.

Y3-Y6 children may also bring a bottle of water into class. Please DO NOT send in juice to drink during lessons and fizzy drinks are not permitted at any time.

Attendance

Good attendance remains a priority. Here are some pointers:

If in doubt, send your child in.

Ring the school office on the first morning of your child’s absence on 0151 432 7100

Send in a letter on your child’s return to school.

If at all possible, avoid medical appointments during the school day. If unavoidable, please send in evidence of the appointment for our records.

In line with Authority policy, we do not authorise any holidays during term time. However, please fill in an ‘Application for leave of absence in term time’ form to inform us of any plans.

Parking

We would like to repeat our plea for safe and respectful parking in Maryville Road, Cliftonville Rd, Bretherton Rd and Hawthorn Rd and the surrounding area. Be mindful of our neighbours and keep the area safe for our children. Please do not drive up to the school gates, use this as a turning area or park on the zig-zags. Traffic Enforcement Officers will be patrolling our area more regularly and will issue penalty notices if necessary. We urge you to leave adequate time to park responsibly and respectfully.

Year group meetings

It was great to see our Y1 and Y2 parents in school this week to see the new classrooms and get to know the faces who work in the team. During the meeting, we explain the routines that are specific to the year group and give you a taste of the new curriculum. Unfortunately, we are only able to hold one meeting per year group but we can forward any information if you are unable to attend. We will meet at 3.15pm in your child’s classroom.

Appointments to see staff

We always strive to ensure that parents and carers have many channels of communication with school staff - our teachers are present at the end of each day, sports staff are available after clubs and Twitter is an amazing communication tool.

However, we understand that there are sometimes matters that should be discussed in a more private manner. We would request that you ring to make an appointment with your preferred staff member so that we can ensure that we have enough time and space to support you. Unfortunately, we are not always available for meetings if an appointment has not been made. In the case of an emergency, please see a member of our Admin Team who will direct you to an appropriate member of staff.

Prescot Projects!

After the amazing experience of our 'Sing for Songbirds' project and the impact it had on all ages, we have decided to take this approach to curriculum planning into the new year. 

Teachers have redesigned their yearly long term plans to include four main projects which will allow time for the children to explore key curriculum concepts at a deeper level whilst enjoying learning within a real context. Just as in the 'Songbirds' project, we hope our learning outcomes will be authentic and meaningful for the children - and we hope that, once again, they will become totally obsessed! Y1 will enter the 'Enchanted Woodland' whilst Y3 will meet some 'Heroes & Villains'. Y5 will be investigating the Black Death whilst Y2 will shout "Land Ahoy!" and Y6 will dig deep into the events of WW2. Nursery and Reception will also have immersive projects that derive from their own interests. There are exciting times ahead.
