The Role of the Governing Board and Committees
The Board of Governors
The Governing Board works in partnership with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and staff. Whilst it is the responsibility of the Headteacher for the day to day running of the school, the governing board is responsible for the conduct of the school, and promotes high standards of educational achievement. It is the accountable body in law and as such:
- Provides the long-term strategy for the school
- Appoints and holds the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school
- Performance appraises the Headteacher
- Agrees the school improvement strategy, including setting targets with supporting budgets and staffing structures
- Mintors and evaluates the work of the school
- Signs off the self-evaluation process and responds to Ofsted reports as necessary, and
- Ensures parents are involved, consulted and informed as appropriate.
In law, the quorum for a maintained governing board meeting is half the complete governing board in post (rounded up to the nearest whole number). Vacancies on the governing board are not counted when determining whether a meeting is quorate or not.
Finance and Premises Committee - Renamed the Resources Committee from Spring Term 2017-18
The Finance and Inclusion Committee is made up of five governors including the Headteacher with one observer. The committee is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure all resources (including staff) are effectively and efficiently deployed.
