Apple Distinguished School

At Prescot Primary, we have embraced digital technology in every area of school life. We are an Apple Distinguished School, (2015-2017), and we use iPads wherever we can to enhance excellent teaching and learning. Children from Y3 to Y6 are given an iPad to personalise; they use it in school but are also encouraged to take it home in a bid to promote learning at home. This perspective opens up opportunities for learning that we may never have previously had.

We are also a school that has recently devoted much time and effort to re-energising our sporting curriculum – inside and outside of school hours. In September 2014, we began to teach using the ‘REAL PE’ scheme and this was directed and often delivered by our Sports Leader, Jane Watts, and our group of sports apprentices. The consistency of approach and focus on fundamental physical skills has transformed the way in which PE is perceived by children, staff and parents alike. Sporting Clubs run from early in the morning to early evening – on the field, in the hall or at the BMX Club. Our children are offered a rich sporting diet.

Whilst we acknowledge that digital skills come secondary to physical activity, we have recognised the potential of the iPad during PE, especially when measuring aspects of activity or coaching/giving feedback.
