Living history

Y4 march on Chester!

Bringing history to life is an important part of our curriculum.

Y4 spent an exciting day in Chester with some real experts on Roman history. Whilst visiting The Grosvener Museum, they learned about the Roman city of Deva, handling artefacts and dressing in Roman costumes. The children spent time talking with each other about life as a Roman citizen.

Our soldiers then picked up their shields and marched through the streets to the amphitheatre. Pupils practised different tactics, such as the tortoise manoeuvre, and were able to explore various rituals and routines that Roman citizens lived their lives by.

Going back in time allows the children to empathise and think more deeply about how we lived in the past.
